About the Founders

Sharon and Allan Northrup - (C7 - T1)

Allan has 30 years of experience as an owner of several companies. In 2001, he sustained a C7-T1 spinal cord injury in an automobile accident. After his release from the hospital, he and his family searched the Northwest for a facility that could provide more than a life of transferring in and out of a wheelchair. Finding nothing, he spent 18 months in San Diego in an aggressive exercise program. He worked out at three different facilities, five days a week, three hours a day including driving long distances to do water therapy and ride an electro stimulus bike.

Upon returning to Seattle in 2004, Allan and Sharon opened the non-profit exercise therapy center Pushing Boundaries to bring to the Northwest the same opportunities they had. To date, dozens of people have benefited from Allan and Sharon's efforts.

Pushing Boundaries Board of Directors

Pushing Boundaries is guided by a board with wide-ranging expertise, medical, legal, technological, business. They all have one thing in common… personal experience with paralysis. In addition to Allan Northrup, board members Dr. Ernest A. Franz and Bruce Hanson were diagnosed as tetraplegics, but are walking today thanks to intensive exercise therapy.
